Welcome
Thanks for dropping by.
My name is Mark McGuire. I was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1956. I have degrees in Architecture, Fine Art, Information Science (MA), and Media Studies (Ph.D.).
I worked as a graphic designer and consultant in my own small Toronto-based design company (Mediatrix Inc.) for 10 years. In 1993, I moved to Dunedin, New Zealand, a beautiful small city near the bottom of the South Island of a small country in the Southern Hemisphere on the other side of the world. My partner, Rochelle Simmons, taught in the English Department at the University of Otago for 30 years, and I was employed as a design academic at the same University for 25 years until 2018.
I became more active as a photographer after leaving the university. We have two sons, who work in Auckland where they completed their university studies, and two Tonkinese cats who have never been to university and don’t even have a high school diploma.
You can read the five questions about my photography and my five answers here.
I publish a weekly newsletter about my street photography on Substack.
