Welcome to my place on the Net
Greetings, fellow Netizen, and welcome to my online presence. My name is Mark McGuire (you can find more information about me on the About page). I thought it was about time that I joined the public conversation that is taking place online through blogs and other forms of networked communication. I was recently asked to give a talk about Open Educational Resources at a Distance Teaching Symposium here at the University of Otago. As part of my research for the presentation I discovered (or, in some cases, rediscovered) a number of people and projects that relate to the idea of Open Education. I found that, during Open Access Week in October 2009, Terry Anderson gave a presentation titled “The Open Scholar”, in which he referred to a blog post by Gideon Burton, which was also quoted by Stephen Downes on his website. Clearly, good ideas get around, especially when they are offered freely and without restrictive licenses. It is in this spirit of openness that I begin this project.
