First Church Bells Recording, Dunedin

March 7, 2010

First Church, Moray Place, Dunedin (Photo: Mark McGuire)

I happened to be walking by First Church today (Moray Place, Dunedin, New Zealand), when the bells started ringing. They rang several times between 10:30AM and 11:00AM, when the service began. I took out my small Marantz PMD620 audio recorder and started recording. Unfortunately, I didn’t have an external microphone, so I had to use the built-in stereo microphones. I also had no wind sock, but there was little wind.

I have included two one-minute samples below. The first was recorded at the base of the church bell tower. The second was recorded from across the street and includes the sound of passing cars and other ambient sounds. Both samples were saved as 192kbps stereo MP3 files.
