After a successful first year in 2010, The Great NZ Remix and Mashup competition is running again in 2011. The deadline has not been announced yet, but you can sign up to the email list on the competition website and follow their facebook page. Information and links to the winning entries for 2010 will give you an idea of the range of projects that the competition covers – from visualisations and mobile applications to remixed posters and cartoons. The supreme Mashup, NZ Walks Information, uses track and hut information from the Department of Conservation, Google maps icons, and Google Maps Javascript Applications to combine a lot of useful information into one easy-to-use interactive map. The best search Experience Category was one by Home Sweet Home, which provides information about rental homes from a website and via mobile devices. Kim Shepherd discussed his experience designing the application on a recent blog post. Radio New Zealand also broadcast a 10 minute report about the competition.
