September 12, 2011

Interview, Wellington, New Zealand (PhillipC CC-BUY)

While searching through lists of  Open Access Journals, Gillian McCarthy discovered the the International Journal of Qualitative Methods, which is published by the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) at the University of Alberta. In her post, Gillian discusses the relevancy of this journal for her research on Strategic Design, which includes interviews with design academics.

The International Journal of Qualitative Methods was launched in 2002 and is published four times per year. It is multi-disciplinary and multi-lingual. All articles, which are free to view and download as PDF files, carry a Creative Commons Licence (CC-BY-2.0) that “permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited”. Recent articles cover a wide range of qualitative research tpoics, including ethnographic approachesfocus groups, and the subjectivity of metaphor.

The IIQA hosts two international conferences per year. One focusses on Qualitative Health Research and the other serves as a forum for Advances in Qualitative Methods more generally. The institute also offeres courses, workshops, and mentorship opportunities.

By following the advice here http://www.journaltocs.ac.uk/API/blog/?p=632
International Journal of Qualitative Methods (and other OA journals using OJS) could easily create an RSS TOC feed, from which there would be many benefits to many people.
